2019 was an exciting year for animations. After a three year hiatus, Young Justice finally returned, and Frozen surprisingly gave us a kids version of Annihilation.
However, 2019 was personally great for me because I finally started watching anime again. And if all goes well, I might even begin reviewing anime on Cinema Hub.
But only time will tell.
However, until then, here are the Seven Animations We Hope You Saw In 2019.
1. Rick and Morty Season 4
Even though it’s still ongoing, The fourth season of Rick and Morty is already better than most Animations I’ve seen this year.
The series keeps true to form, by dropping mind-blowing random stories with each passing episode.
I mean, we’re just five episodes in, and Morty has already become an anime- god. Summer got magical Legolas-like Archer skills.
And as if that wasn’t crazy enough, Rick created a robot capable of stealing an entire planet.
Meanwhile, Jerry and Beth try their best to keep the worst marriage in history working. Rather than just getting a divorce, putting us all out of our misery.
To keep it simple, Rick and Morty is a show where an old man takes his grandkids, go on random adventures and defy every known law of physics.
2. Final Space Season 2
The second season of Final Space was a roller coaster of emotions that came with many depressing origin stories and sacrifices.
One thing I loved about this season is how each episode started with shenanigans and silly jokes, and then before you know it, shit gets real.
It’s all fun and games one minute, and then next thing you’re traveling back in time to save your best friend from certain death.
But the biggest surprise came when we met Gary’s ever capable mother. And with her arrival, we got a glimpse of Gary’s messed up childhood.
And damn, Gary had it rough.
However, messed up stories like Gary’s, is one of the many reasons Final Space works so well. And I can’t wait to see what season 3 brings.
3. Young Justice Outsiders
Young Justice Outsiders was every bit as amazing as I expected.
Yes, there were some episodes I wish they skipped (I expand more on this in my full review). But then it also gave me an entire season of Batman manipulating the DC superhero community, so…
What more could I have asked for?
However, for every hero, there must be a villain. And Vandal Savage’s villain team, “The Light,” continues to live up to the task.
They execute their plans with such efficiency that I wouldn’t blame any hero for wanting to switch sides.
Even when our heroes catch them off guard, they somehow always land on their feet, which makes me wonder if getting found wasn’t part of the plan.
Young Justice returns for its fourth season in 2020. But in the meantime, you catch Young Justice on Amazon.
4. Kimetsu No Yaiba
If there were ever a story about how hard work can only succeed with a strong will, it would be Kimetsu no Yaiba.
This beautiful anime follows Tanjiro, a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after a demon slaughters his family and turns his little sister into (you guessed it), a demon.
Now stronger, Tanijro vows to find a way to make his sister, Nezuko Human again. And get vengeance on the demon responsible.
Kimetsu no Yaiba is a story of love, loss, and determination to improve, despite impossible odds. But what made this incredible storyline even better, was the beautiful animation that accompanied it.
The world of Kimetsu no Yaiba is breathtaking, with each character possessing a unique design.
Kimetsu no Yaiba is one anime that every animation lover should see.
5. Frozen 2
After hearing a mysterious voice call out to her, Elsa travels to the enchanted forests and dark seas, to discover the origins of her powers. And the truth behind her parent’s disappearance.
However, Elsa isn’t alone, Olaf the snowman, Kristoff and her sister Anna, accompany her on this journey of self-discovery. And together, they discover the dark secrets of their kingdom, Arendelle.
Right off the bat, Olaf steals the entire show.
He gives a brilliant and hilarious recap of Frozen one. And kept me happy and entertained throughout the animated movie.
But as much I enjoyed Frozen 2, I must confess that I only watched it because of this tweet.
And after seeing the animated movie, I completely agree, Frozen 2 is a Family Friendly version of Annihilation.
Think about it.
Elsa and her friends travel to the enchanted forest hidden behind a huge fog. Similar to how Lena (Natalie Portman) and her team enter the Shimmer in Annihilation.
Both Elsa and Lena entered an unknown area to discover the truth of what happened to a loved one (And also save their kingdom or world).
And after doing everything possible to reach their goal, both characters discover a spiritual (or Lena’s case an alien) entity, which showed that they are the missing element they’ve been searching for the entire time.
It even comes with its version where more than half of the team dies (Just like Annihilation).
But it’s just for a short period (this is still a Disney Animation).
However, unlike Annihilation, when Elsa finds herself at death’s door, Anna comes to her rescue. And that’s one thing I took away from this beautiful animation.
That even if there are certain things you must do alone, you’re never alone.
Frozen two might not be as good as it’s predecessor, but it’s still a fantastic Animated Movie. And if you haven’t yet seen this emotional animation, you should catch it whenever you can. (And try out Annihilation, you won’t regret it)
P.S Check out Frozen Two’s music creators explain how Frozen New Song Reflect’s its Story.
6. Toy Story 4
I initially thought Toy Story 4 was just another Disney attempt to cash out on our childhood.
But after seeing it, I came to two conclusions.
One, Toy Story 4 isn’t as good as the original trilogy.
Why? Because I said so.
But also two, it is still a great animated movie. And you should definitely check it out.
7. Harley Quinn Animated Series
Let me make this short. If you’re a fan of DC Animation, please watch this series. It’s superb.
There’s no reason why it should be, but it is.
While the series primarily focuses on a newly single Harley Quinn, who sets off to make it on her own in Gotham City.
It also shows her interacting with most characters across the DC universe. Including the Legion of Doom, the Justice League, and the Bat-Family.
As a DC fan, you owe it yourself to check this animated series out. It is legit one of the Best surprises of 2019.
Loved this post! I’ve seen 4bof these and am really looking forward to Kimetsu No Yaiba. Thank you for sharing ?
I’m glad you enjoyed the post. And as for Kimestu No Yaiba, I promise that if you give it a try, you would be just as amazed as I was.
