Where To Watch:
If there’s one thing you should take away from this review, it’s that Raya and The Last Dragon is a well-made animated movie that perfectly blends action, emotional drama, and comedy.
I mean, even despite being a Disney animation, Raya still features some intense combat throughout its story. And its final fight was nothing but absolute flames!!!.
But before we go any further, let’s talk about the plot.
Raya and The Last Dragon takes place in a fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons once lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Drunn threaten the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
Now 500 years later, humanity is divided, and those same monsters have returned. But all hope is not lost, as a lone warrior named Raya, tracks down the last Dragon in this world to stop the Drunn once and for all.
What Raya is Really About
While stopping the Drunn is important, Raya and The Last and Dragon’s true story is about restoring trust to a divided land. And the animated film reflects this division through the broken friendship of its two main characters, Namaari and Raya.
Throughout the movie, we see both characters longing to return to how life once was. But thanks to the difficult situations they find themselves in, both women are forced to make even more difficult choices.
This inner conflict is shown more in Namaari, a capable warrior Princess, who at various points of the story has no choice but to put her duty ahead of her friendship with Raya.
However, just when their bond seems broken beyond repair, a leap of faith brings the close friends and the rest of the country together again. (And no, I don’t consider that a spoiler because it’s Disney animation. It was always going to end with love and friendship).
But apart from the two frenemies, Raya and the Last Dragon also features many other interesting characters, such as the mysterious last Dragon herself, Sisu (voiced by Awkwafina).
However, the standout character of the entire show was the Con Baby, Noi.
This cute but mischievous child is by far the best and most capable animated baby I’ve ever seen. Or at least a very close second to Jack-Jack from the Incredibles.
Even if you don’t watch Raya for its action or heartbreaking story, please watch it for The Con Baby. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Review
While Raya and The Last Dragon is very much a story about strength through trust and unity, it’s also a cautionary tale about greed and isolation. The latest Disney animation not only delivers an incredible story mixed with unique characters, decent action, and very good comedy, but it also has an awesome soundtrack to go with it.
